Halligarth HousePlanning
Halligarth House is located on Unst, Shetland. The grounds boast the most northerly woodlands in the UK, planted by its owner in the 1830s to encourage biodiversity. Subsequent generations made important contributions to scientific knowledge of native flora and fauna. The site is renowned today for attracting migrant birds. The National Trust for Scotland desired a new visitor experience to engage current audiences with the act of 'doing' science. We focused interpretation around the theme 'Citizen scientists: past, present and future' and planned a series of interactive science hubs. An accompanying website would allow visitors to upload their findings to help NTS scientists monitor the site. |
