Raby Castle, Park & GardensCommunity consultation, interpretive planningRaby Castle in County Durham is one of England’s finest medieval castles and the heart of an unusually intact medieval estate, owned since the 13th century by only two families. ‘The Rising’ was a landmark project undertaken by the current generation to widen access to the park and walled gardens and to engage visitors with stories of the people who lived and worked on the Estate.
This project involved repurposing historic stable buildings to add interpretation and expanded visitor facilities, redesigning the walled garden and constructing a bespoke themed play area. I produced an interpretive framework alongside proposals for an orientation exhibition, a centrepiece projected map AV programme and interpretation in the garden. |
