Jill Walker Centre for Visual Arts Barbados National Trust
Community consultation, interpretive planning
Jill Walker (1927-2021), born and educated in England, moved permanently to Barbados in the 1950s. She became known for her paintings and drawings capturing the spirit of Barbadian life, landscape and architecture. To honour Jill’s wishes of keeping her original works together and sharing this collection with Barbadians and visitors to the island, Jill Walker’s family, in collaboration with the Trust, wish to establish The Jill Walker Centre for Visual Arts at her former home and studio at Welches Plantation.
Ann developed an Interpretation Plan for the project through conversations with the Walker family, the Trust and stakeholders both in Barbados and abroad. This included two community workshops to gather input from artists and other interest groups.
